We woke up one morning to no water from our well. My husband, who is no plumber, discovered that there were some bad wires on one of the relay switches on our pump. He and my dad changed it out. Now, our cold water has no pressure and it goes from cold to warm to cool to warm. As the past few days have gone on, we lose all water pressure, hot and cold, periodically. Taking a shower is NOT fun. We have had to wash all of our clothes in hot water because the cold water is at a trickle. Oh, and the water that comes out of our water hose is HOT. My dad was not happy about killing his 6 dozen minnows when trying to add water to his bucket. We have opened all fawcets and it seems all air is out of the lines. How could we be losing water pressure and the cold water siphoning from the hot water heater? Also, in the middle of the night, you can hear the water heater "filling", but no one is up or using water. There are NO leaks.

Any help would be soooo appreciated.

By relay switch do mean pressure switch? Are you on a well or city water? I am a master
Plummer I love crawling under house and going down wells.

I'm new to this site so I erased my full answer because I needed more information and did not know how to find your question on same page.

So I guess you have a well with in-line pump and foot valve? Karenlynn

Oh my. We are on a well. There is a hole in the ground that we keep covered up where the pump is. Yes, I do believe it is a pressure relay switch that they changed out. I read several posts on here and I wonder if they reprimed the pump and if they have the pressure set high enough. It is if the water heater isn't filling up all the way and at the same time, not enough pressure for the cold water and it's like "siphoning" back through the water heater. We had NO problems before the switch went bad and was replaced. My husband is at the store right now finishing christmas shopping. When he gets back, I will surely ask him your questions. Maybe he can explain better what is happening.
