    Gift ideas?
OK, I'm drawing a blank on what to do for my lovely wife for Christmas, so how about tossing your ideas this way... what would YOU really like for Christmas from your husband/wife/significant other?

I think a weekend getaway for the two of you is a great idea and it benefits you as well as her.
(Even if it is not very far away)

Yes... everyone can use this at anytime!

All great ideas, but been there, done that. Any more? Come on, I know you folks are very creative. :)

Ask her about her Childhood around Christmastime, any traditions she did, foods she ate, etc..

    Then go from there

I take it you've already maxed out on gifts for whatever hobby she has.

I have... short of actually getting my wife a horse.

Honestly ; we plan weekend getaways frequently . With her mom living with us she needs the time away . Also the jewelry idea works almost every time. Not very imaginitive I guess , but it is something of value they always have . I go through catalogues like Danbury Mint and pick up something that is not your standard run of the mill jewelry .

    For Sapph :

But it is probably too late to order now and get it on time unless you shell out $$$ for overnight deliveries.

Yep, the jewelry thing always works well. I have long built collections for her from a regional favorite, James Avery. This is my fallback item, she has the earrings (and loves them) and needs to complete the set:

Petite Blossom Ring with Pink Sapphire

Still, throw out your ideas folks. Your creativity may help others as well.

ARUGULA!! Just kidding :) How about a really nice Digital Camera. I like the Nixon CoolPix P80. Less then 300 bucks and takes great pictures. Or they have the new touch screen Nixon CoolPix S60.

Does she like Broadway? What about a Broadway weekend in NYC? Catch a few shows, etc.

Cameras aren't really her thing but I do think she'd love a Blackberry, I just don't like the monthly bill that comes along with it. She'd LOVE the arugula, and then smack me upside the head for not buying the diamond, too :D

Thanks, that would be awesome and we'd both enjoy that. But unless tomder puts us up for the weekend it's a bit out of my price range for now. I do have a 25th anniversary coming up in June, though ;)

Yeah the monthly bill is a killer. Like with AT&T if you get a regular phone they charge you 15.00 dollars for unlimited data plus the voice plan . IF you get a blackberry same plan is $30.00 plus the voice plan.

A coupon book - of random "things" you'll do for her...

    Clean the bathrooms...
    Wash the dishes...
    Night out...
    ... other creative gestures...

    It's a thought! :)

Gee, another awesome idea for the average husband. I don't clean the bathroom that much but I often wash the dishes, I do a lot of laundry, dust occasionally, do the floors about half the time and I do most of the cooking. Maybe I need a coupon book from her? ;)

By the way, all awesome ideas everyone... keep 'em coming.

This may sound strange but how about a Tivo? I got one last year and my Fiancé uses it more then I do. She records all the shows that might be on when she is at work and If I am watching the eagles or something like that she can record what she wants to watch while I am watching the game. Once the game is over she watches all her stuff.

They are about 300 bucks (Or you can get a refurbished one from Tivo for $179.00) plus you will need to rent cable cards from your cable provider they usually charge about 5 bucks a month for the cards. You don't need their cable box anymore so your cable bill goes down a little bit. They do charge 12.95 for the Tivo service. But you can pay for the entire year all at once and it equals out to about 10.95 a month.

Get her a book about how to win at Fantasy Football... oh wait... never mind... she's got that down pat already . (Purple Phaze def. Peyton, 181-158)

Love it, Spit. We have 2 Dish DVR's and I think they're handier than a big flat screen TV could ever be for sports fans... or if you just like to watch endless airings of A Baby Story. I know, it's starting to sound like what do you get for the girl who has everything? She really doesn't have everything but I love all the ideas and maybe they'll help some other shopping challenged person out there, too.

    A maid for a week.

    A day at the spa.

A framed picture of you and/or your kids---a NICE frame.

A picture of her favorite place, professionally framed and matted.

Jewelry is good, but personalize it. Get a ring engraved with "your" saying (ours are strange, so I can't give you an example of ours, but something like "love you forever and a day" or "you are my heart's desire" or whatever silly thing you sign cards with)

Lessons for something she's always wanted to try--skydiving, belly dance, cooking, pottery, whatever--that you can usually get from your local community college.

A night on the town--dinner, play, a day at the casino, or race track or a cruise on a local river or the Holiday Train or whatever you can find locally that's OUT and NOT something you normally do.
