On my regulator on the outside of the house, when it is below zero, there is a steady for a few minutes a tick, tick sound as the furnace is starting up... it does not do it when the temp is above zero is this going to be a problem and should the regulator be changed?? The person, who does repairs for propane, came out and said the unit should be good for 25 years and it is only 4 or 5 years old.

If the regulator is working at zero then it should be OK. If you want to spend $$$ replace it if not wait till it breaks then replace. Some regulators will make noise and there is no way to tell if the noise is going to cause it to fail.

I recently switched providers and the tech recommended replacing the regulator every 10 years. From my discussions with him about various aspects of my system he was very knowledgeable and very hesitant to recommend anything unnecessary. At the time I deferred to his greater hands-on days to day reliability experience, but now I am beginning to wonder. :confused:

My regulators at my camp is 27 years old and that is the primary and secondary both 27 years old. Never had a problem. It uses about 500 gallons a year since I do not live there in the winter I keep the temperature down to 50.
