Hold on funds in bank account
My account says I have 400 dollars and I have a hold on 500 dollars.. will I still be able to take money out of my bank? What does a hold mean?

Ok, what should your balance be, ( the balance you keep) should you have 900 dollars and 500 is on hold pending a check clearing ?

Of do you only have 400 dollars but there are outstanding checks for 500

You need to explain your question more

You will be able to take money out of your account once the hold expires. The hold will (in most cases) expire once the cheque has cleared all right.

What a "hold" is, is the peroid of time it takes for your bank to receive the money from the bank that the cheque is drawn on. All a cheque is is a piece of paper promising a transfer of sorts. The hold allows that transfer to be completed BEFORE the money is spent.

The hold can also be the result of a Judgment/lien.
