    Tenant Registration
I rent a townhouse in a gated community in Las Vegas NV. Recently, I received a notice, addressed to the owner demanding that all tenants be registered. They want our names and details of the lease or we could be locked out of the compound. The entrances are gated and for access you have to insert a code.

Can they ask for personal details and can they lock us out if they do not supply them? I am told that some of the owner/neighbors are "tired of not knowing who lives on the compound."

Sounds like normal rules for a HOA. I guess you need to talk to the landlord and see perhaps why he did not make you aware of the fact you needed to provide them that info.

Yes this is very possible. Many HOAs do require special rules when owners rent their units. They can require that tenants be approved by the HOA. Requiring that tenants be registered is not uncommon.

As long as the HOA is acting under the terms of the by-laws, they can do almost anything they want. From what you said, asking for tenants names and a copy of the lease is not out of line. That's not a great deal of personal info.

So contact your landlord immediately and make sure he forwards the info.
