So am I just suddenly great at history?
Something kind of odd is happening this year. Up until this grade level (11th) I did slightly-above-average in school, barely staying on honor roll.

This year I decided to take a little bit of a challenge and take AP US History. Its great, my favorite class that I've ever had and like the only one I've actually liked really. There's so much stuff to learn.

But here's the odd thing, now I'm consistently getting the top test scores in that class, and I'm really having a hard time believing it. Besides me, everyone in there are high honors students, and they're getting a bit bewildered by how good I'm doing, hehe.

Could it really be just because I enjoy the class? I find that kind of hard to believe, but I can't really think of another reason. It's the only class I do really good in. And also, I never before pictured myself enjoying a class, all the ones I've been in were so boring.

    Thank you :)

When we find a subject interesting, we pay more attention in class and to our readings and homework. It's great that you took the chance and found out that you like it.

    Hi, EliXir318!

Congratulations at finding something in which you might have a natural knack for excelling! I wish you many other such successes!

    Thanks!

I think a lot of school requires more work because we are naturally inclined to certain subjects and less so to others. In your case you have to struggle (I assume study harder) to maintain good grades in some classes and others seem to just fall in place easier.

Some people just get math or science, some are excellent in languages or art, some are just pretty good at everything.

You have found something that you love and are good at. Now the trick is to parlay that into something lifelong, whether it be a career or just a hobby. There are many fields where history can be useful. Is it a specific type of history or any history? How do you feel about museums? Have you considered teaching? Writing?

You are lucky really - I was 30 before I discovered something that I was really good at that I also loved.

When you have a interest, and when you try harder, you do better, nothing odd at all
