I am not aware of any Court that will recognize a DNA that is not ordered and supervised in some way by the Court. An unrecognized DNA will not serve any purpose if it is contested nor can it be used for any legal purpose.
He has to go to Court and request DNA as part of a custody/support/visititation motion. The Court will order testing.
There is no easy or cheap way that will hold up in court. If you are just looking to know then there are several places on the internet that do hair testing, check with your local doctor's office or hospital, but you can't use it in court.
If you are looking to get a DNA test because of court papers or filings then go to the clerk's office in the family/civil courthouse and ask for a copy of the doctors they use. That way you can use the results in court if need be.
I don't think any of it is cheap; the lowest I have see it was $250, but you couldn't take the results to court. Also, if you know an attorney in the family courts you can ask them who they would recommend.
