    roof is leaking
    Hello,

My hubby and I just recently bought this house. It has been having problems left and right. The newest problem is a leak in the roof. We live in Atlanta, which doesn't get a lot of rain. So this week has been bad- raining 2 inches so far. The area just by the front door is the problem area- we first noticed it a few weeks ago, but it was just light discoloration. Then last night it got bad, a big leak. So my hubby went into the attic and found that there was indeed a leak, and that there was cardboard in the spot so it must have happened before.

Anyhow, we stopped up the leak as best we could, and called a roofer to come over and put a tarp on it and asses the damage. He'll be here really soon. But is there anything you can tell me about this mess I'm in? How does someone usually fix this kind of problem? Do I have to replace my entire ceiling now? (it's plaster)

What should I look out for? Are they going to try and sell me something I don't need just because the economy is so slow now? Can't I just use that silicone putty stuff that comes in a can? My hubby found some in the basement, it says it's waterproof. What is the average price of a repair like this? The area is about a 3x5 square foot area.

Thanks for any insight into this mess!

The area is 3' X 5',I guess this is the interior ceiling damage?

The price for repair is dictated by location, labor rates, what materials needed... etc.

Get THREE estimates from professionals, listen to how they propose to do the work, then decide if it is something you can handle or need to contact your Insurance company.

Home owner Ins. Might cover the repairs(after deductible)Look for your coverage and call the INS Co.after the pro's give you an answer.
