    Well,in a word,NO

    Ceramic tile,being rigid,needs a totally flat surface to lay on.Linoleum is 'soft' and would give too much for the rigidity necessary for the ceramic tile(much less the grout) to stay put.

    I suggest putting down cement board for the subfloor,then the thinset has something to adhere to and the tiles won't move.

    Yeah I wanted to redo my kitchen and bathroom and my landlord said sure do it over the linoleum. Now it is a mess!

    All depends on the sub floor below the linoleum. If it were laid on concrete or Hardibacker you could do ceramic but most reputatble contractors will not do this type of install. Set the ceramic in modified thinset.
