You guys will love this. My D-Link DIR 625 router crapped out, thanks to a glitch from my forced hotmail home page update, and when I try to reinstall it, the quick set-up disk gets me to the section on checking firmware and tells me I don't have a supported D-Link router and to up-grade my firmware. I download and save the firmware but now I find out I can't install it without my D-Link router working so I can access site 192.168.0.1.
Upon calling the D-Link tech support hotline, the barely understandable message says to get my credit card out and put my seatbelt on. This vicious circle may very well end back at the store to buy a Linksys router.
Has anyone out there found a different solution to the D-Link never ending saga?

Did you try resetting it first?

Step 1 With the unit on, place a paper clip into the hole on the back on the unit labeled Reset.

Step 2 Hold paper clip down for 10 seconds and release.

Note: Do not repower unit during this procedure.

Step 3 The unit will reboot on its own. Once the WLAN light stops blinking, the unit is reset

Thanks a ton Static. I did try the re-set you suggest with no help. Here's what I also did that helped to some degree. I went into my Windows folder and found the old Network Magic software still installed but hidden. I deleted it and started over with the installation disk. This time the disk installed a fresh copy of Network magic so I ran the diagnostics with it and now, at least, the router is completely connected after re-start and allows an internet connection through my cable modem with the host computer. Now the problem is the computer with the wireless adapter can't find the internet even though it does show a connection to the router. More info: My host computer shows two network adapters. One for connecting to the internet to the cable modem and one for the dlink network. If I enable the router adapter, I lose all connection to the internet. My guess is that the router is still not configured correctly but at least now I can get on-line with the router connected and hopefully install the firmware upgrade I downloaded by way of that ever famous address 192.168.0.1. Didn't they write a song about that? Beachwood 192.168.0.1, you can buy a dlink in your store, and have some fun. Sorry! I lost my mind for a second.

I got to tell you in all honesty, I've been using this D-link router for over a year without a problem until now. When it works, it's great and just about the time you become thoroughly spoiled by it, POOF! Gone.

Are you using a laptop? That would explain why you show 2 network adapters. Secondly, it doesn't sound like a problem with the router, but a problem with your computer. Software on the computer wouldn't have fixed a physical router problem.

Check your cable modem too. Maybe that's the problem.
