    Hippa law
    At my employer we a yearly enrollment for our 401k and health benefits. Every year they have the employees come to one office to sign up. There could be up to 20 employees at one time in the room. They ask us personal questions with everyone standing around to her your personal business. For example, they will read out loud the amount of life insurance you have and your beneficiaries. They will write on a form or say out loud the amount you want to contribute on your 401k. And worst of all this year they asked me personal questions about my wife and children where people could hear my response. Like height, weight, social #, dob. This was humiliating to me. Are they in violation of the hippa act. This is in Arkansas.. Thanks

    Unless you work at a hospital NO.
    Is it ethical not really but if that is the way they do it there is no law against it.
    You might want to talk to them about it, maybe you might want to get your co-workers to go with you. Maybe you could come up with some suggestions on how to make it more private.

    No this has nothing to do with HIPAA. There are no medical practitioners revealing diagnosis or treatement information to someone unauthorized.

    There is also nothing illegal about what they are doing, but its certainly a questionable practice.

    Why not take a stand and answer; "I will be glad to answer your questions if you can show the necessity of your needing the info. Also, I believe this information should be discussed in a more private setting".
