Ice buildup in bottom of kenmore freezer
My side by side Kenmore refrigerator/freezer model number 106.54612300 has something gone haywire with the defrost cycle.

Ice has been building up on the bottom of the freezer. I defrosted it manually and made sure that the drain plug was clear, twice now, and that did not solve the problem.

What else could be causing this problem?

The defrost timer switch needs replaced. The same thing happened to my side by side twice so I am quite familiar with this problem.

The self defrost system is made up of 3 parts. Defrost timer, defrost bimetal thermostat or defrost termination thermostat and defrost heater. Any one of these items will cause the problem you have. When I used to service these units I always replaced all 3 parts. It cost a bit more to do it this way but it will not have problems again for a long time.

Having trouble identifying the part you mention, do you happen to know the part number?

    Thanks

Do you have a site you like for parts? Also, I could find the heater part, but not the two others you mention by name. I checked a couple of sites, last was repairclinic. They are expensive enough that I want to make sure I don't make a dumb mistake buying the wrong parts.

Sorry all my parts were always obtained from a local wholesaler since I was in the biz.
