    Bladder infection?
    Hello,
I was in the hospital not too long ago and they collected a urine sample through a cathedar and about two days after I started having burning and painful urination, its gotten a little better but it still hurts, and I had intercourse last night and it was painful and I still have some pain I go to my gyno Wednesday to see what it might be, could it be a bladder infection? I was at the point where I wanted to scream when I would urinate because it hurt so bad.

If you were catheterized, then it is very possible that you have an infection. Is your urine cloudy? Does it have a lot of bubbles or a strong odor? Then chances are you have an infection of either the kidney or urinary tract, or bladder. Your Gyno will probably have you give another specimen, and then based on that, will probably give you Bactrim DS and Urelle. Bactrim is an antibiotic that is commonly prescribed for these infections, although he/she may give you a different one based on what the culture shows. The Urelle is an analgesic that also helps with any frequency issues you might be having. If you take it enough though, your urine will change color. Not anything major, but notable. I have persistent kidney infections from a atrophic kidney, so I have been down this road several times. Good luck!

You can buy over the counter medicine for the pain. It turns your urine orange.

It would be best to save a urine sample before you start taking the medicine to give to your doctor.

Once you take the meds, the doctor will not get a reliable answer.

But it is best to take these for the pain. I get a uti at least once a year. Those over the counter meds are a life saver until you can get to the doctor.

A bladder infection can be very painful. Drink as much water as possible. This will help to flush out impurities.

Drinking water or cranberry juice will help, but she may want to hold off until the doctor sees the urine culture. She doesn't want to skew the results, which might lead to mis-treatment. Take Tylenol, for the pain now, and like I said, you'll probably get a script for Urelle and a antibiotic on Wednesday. It is uncomfortable I know, but it will be over soon. I live with perpetual infections, and now my kidney cannot be removed due to a very large stone in the other kidney. *sigh* it's always something.

BIGBOPPER disagrees: The doctor is going to want a current sample. A saved sample will rot before it is given to the Dr.

I am going off what my doctor told me to do. He said to bring in some before the medication.

southerngalps agrees: tylenol doesn't help. The medication that is made for this specific pain works.

Oh... I meant to disagree. But at least you got a greenie.

Thanks I appreciate it I have had a couple of bacterial infections due to me having hyperthyroidism my horomones are all wacked out, but I've never had this problem so I don't know what it may be, yes my urine is cloudy and does have an odor, and I am allergic to bactrim so I hope there will be another antibiotic I may take. Yes the pain is more like an uncomfortable feeling and while intercourse it is very painful. I am worried, I hope it is nothing serious its been going on for about 2 weeks now (since I left the hospital)

Well thanks! I have had a persistent infection for three years now. My urologist always either wants me to come in to drop pee, or will just call in a script. I know that Tylenol isn't as effective for the burning sensation, but it is better than nothing. The poster will be going to the doctor in less than 24 hours, and will get a better drug. Either perdiem, or Urelle. I like Urelle myself.
Even though it feels bad, trust me it is not the end of the world. You could be like me and have them constantly. But like I said, I can't have the kidney removed now because the "healthy" kidney has a 10 mm stone that they just want to "observe"...

There's lots of antibiotics that can help. Bactrim is common so it is used highly. Since you are allergic, they will have others to give you. A couple of times, I had to be injected with some antibiotic! But that is for extreme infections. Once you leave the Dr. you'll have a script in your hand for the pain. It is not a narcotic, it doesn't make you feel anything odd, but it will stop the frequency and the pain. And turn your pee green. If they give you perdiem, which I doubt since it is an OTC now, it turns orange. Hang in there kiddo. BTW what part of the sunshine state are you from? If you are near me, I'll give you my urologists name... He's good.

Well I went today they sent out a urine culture but the one they did about a week ago came back with no growth I'm getting an ultrasound done next week because I also get real heavy periods I have menorraghia and she said the reason I may be so irritated can be sensitivity to latex and I think that may be true because I have noticed with condoms I do get irritated sometimes, but the ultrasound shall tell it all? I am from miami actually but I live in brandon near tampa and yourself? Wow that sucks I hate to see any one go through that
