How can I video my chook pen at night spot mouse activity ?
Mice are getting into my chook shed but I can't find out where. I'd like to let video run in the shed at night to locate the problem. Any help will be appreciated, but it needs to be simple and cheap - I'm not looking for a Hollywood block-buster !

It's a hen house. But at the moment it's more like a mouse house.

Install a stand alone video camera. Rent one if necessary. Many camcorders have a time lapse feature which will extend the total taping time. Watch the video the next day. Do NOT provide a bright light. Rodents may avoid this. A very dim light such as a 40 watt or less bulb should not bother the rodents while allowing sufficient light for video recording. If the first video produces no evidence, reposition the camers aon successive days to capture all corners of the shed. In my area, "D-CON" rodent poison placed around the exterior of the enclosure works wonderfully. The rats (or squirrels) find this tasty treat and devour it instead of the food they were seeking inside the shed. After their meal, they go back to their nest & die. Hopefully, the nest is nowhere near your sleeping quarters. The smell of a dead anything can become very offensive. Good Luck!

You can also try a flash camera, one that you use for deer hunting to watch your hunting land. It will take a picture every time there is motion. A couple of cats would help too!:)

Thanks dobiefloyd. I'll check that out. But a cat in the chicken shed? We just had one get in and eat two chickens! But I suppose if it had eaten all the chickens we wouldn't have a mouse problem...

Lol. At least we have a good sense of humor about it :)

If you've got a laptop, and somewhere safe to put it, you could use that, an extension cord for power, and a webcam. There are quite a few camera utilitys for the PC that will record when they sense motion.
