Child support age limit in Indiana
In the state of Indiana does child support continue until 21 only if they continue education or does it continue even if they have moved out on their own and have their own job and if so, who gets the child support? Does the mother/father continue getting this even if the child no longer depends on the mother for support? If so why do widowed mothers only receive benefits until her child reaches 18 or no longer in school.

What does the support agreement say? Generally this is outlined in the support agreement.

Each support order is a little different. If before 21 but after 18 the child does not enroll in school then the support should stop especially if the child moves out on their own. However, if the support dosen't stop then the ncp will have to go to court to have it stopped. To do this they have to gather as much eveidence as they can that the child is no longer a child as defined in the support order.

Scott, if it said in the court order I would not be asking it does not state an age limit

Mostly it depends on when your order was written. If it's a newer order it runs until age 21 regardless if continued education or not.

Older orders stopped at 18 and graduated from high school.

You would be surprised. I would say more than half the people that ask such a question couldn't even tell us where their support order was let alone what it says. So we have to assume that the asker hasn't looked.

Besides which, as I said, this is usually spelled out in the order, it's a rare support order that doesn't.

Yes, it is up to the court order and how it is written, it should be specific as to when the child support is paid to. If it does not you had a poor attorney.

So the answer is, you are required to pay according to YOUR child suport order.
If it does not say, a trip back to court may be required to clear this up.
