Tips on puppy proofing and first aid kit
I just had a traumatic experience with not thoroughly puppy proofing my room where Odin pretty much lives. I leave my purse on the second shelf of my book case. When I brought him home, he couldn't reach. Apparently, now he can, as I found out thirty minutes ago.
I have birth control that I take for cramps, and he chewed a little over a weeks worth. He's only five pounds and eleven ounces, so I knew it had to do something horrible. He was just running around and all happy. Not a care in the world. More like "LOOK MOMMY LOOK WHAT I HAVE!" type of attitude. I quickly looked for an emergency vet, and I couldn't find one that was open/long distance. I searched online and someone said "At least he can't get pregnant!" Well, he can't get pregnant right now, so that was no help. [This all happened in about two minutes] I ran upstairs to wake my mom up [I'm only 17!] and asked her what to do. I looked up our emergency vet online, because I had no idea what the name of it was or the number. She directed me to feed him two tablespoons of benzoyl peroxide. It's easier to wrap him up like a taco, get a feeding tube/syringe, blow on his nose, and make him drink it. We had plenty of tubes like that because I always had to take medicine like that when I was younger. He basically threw up everything, and oh boy was it gross. My mom had to clean it up because I almost vomited myself. ]: He looked so sad and pitiful. No food or water for the rest of the night, and a little bit in the morning. I think it was more traumatic for me than for him, other than the forcing him to drink peroxide.
So, AMHD, I ask you, what would be the best way to puppy proof?
And, I need a first aid kid together in case something like this happens. What do you suggest?
Resources and traumatic stories are welcome as well. :]
