How do I remove the cartridge on a moen bathtub faucet 92921
First you turn the water off. Take off the handle. Look at the very top of the faucet part sticking out of the wall, you should see a hole in a piece of metal, the hole is about I/16 of an inch in diamiter, stick something in this and try to move it up, it has a horse shape. Now is the hard part, put the screw back into the hole it belongs in and try with a pair of pliers to pull the stem and all out of the faucet. This may work and it may not. They make a tool for this job, so if you could rent one it would help but if you can't you have to improvise.
You can do this by putting something under the screw and then a board or something against the wall to use as a spacer and now try to lever the stem out.
If you have not goet it by now you will have to use your brain and find somethig to use to pry it out.
Hope this helps.
Once you remove the horse shoe shaped retaining clip that letmetellu mentioned, I would take a pair of needle nose pliers and stick them in so that the points of the pliers are are both sides of the cartridge. Then push in and try to twist the cartridge. You will see where the pliers catch on the cartridge. One you break the cartridge free by spinning it, it will pull out much easier. Good luck and please let us know how it works out.
Can you tell me if the faucet knob pulls and pushes for on off, or dose it turn counterclockwise , clockwise for on off.
If if pulls/pushes, please let me know if the cartidge appears to be all brass, or if the outside looks like plastic. If all brass, you may have a tough time getting the old cartridge out. Let us know and we will take it from there.
I tried to find faucet # 92921 on the Moen site but it do not match with any of Moen Tub faucet please double check the number, Thanks.
