    windows XP message at shutdown
When I shut down my windows XP-home, it displays a message very shortly (for about 1/3 second) and then shuts down.

The display is just too short for me to see, so I do not know what it is about.

I have checked the values in the register regarding wait for hung applications etc, but they are all standard.

Does any one know how to get to the message?

    regards

    Gert

Don't laugh but, while doing tech support, I have actually filmed the boot up/shut down with my digital camera to capture the screen with the error message. Sometimes it's the only way to give you a hint to the malfunctioning part of Windows.

Do you mean event viewer when you say register? If not I would look there right click my computer & select manage, you will see event viewer near the top on the left - expand the branch to check out different aspects, its probably either application or system though. Check these logs for things that happen at the time you click shutdown.
