    Dryer - harsh, scraping noise
    HI -
My clothes dryer makes a harsh, scraping noise as it is turning but only for parts of the cycle. Usually near the beginning, and then again about mid-way through. On either side of this period, the dryer turns quietly. Gradually the scraping noise seems to increase, becoming louder and louder, before tapering off again.

It's a used dryer and I've had it awhile without service.
Any ideas and is this an expensive fix?
I'm totally NOT handy at all, don't have a dad or husband who can do this for me...

    Thanks

The bearings for the drum are dry. Might diassemble and apply some high temperature grease or replace the bearings.

THANKS HVAC -- SO.. how do I do that? Disassemble? Where are the bearings and how would I recognize them?

You'll see why I chose my log in name now.. LOL

Usually the top pops off. Then there are usually 2 screws that hold the front panel on. Then the bearings are located inn the rear of the drum area and the front are bearing band is located on or near the front panel/door area. There have been many different bearing setups over the years so you will need to look around while you are in there for areas of wear. While you have it apart you might as well replace the belt also and clean out alll the extra lint.
