Hey I just wanting to try and find out what was going on in my house. I have a 2 story house and downstairs I have a load bearing wall going from the kitchen to the dining room. It use to be a 4 foot opening with 4 foot of wall on each side and I just opened it up to a 8 foot 10 inch opening with 19 inches of wall on each side. And to support it I put up 2 9.25 inch lvls nailed together for my header with it sitting on 2 jack studs on each side like I was recommended to do by an engineer. But the problem is now when I go upstairs to the room above that wall I hear a bunch of popping and noises when I walk across the floor in the floor and shooting up through the upstairs wall. What is going on and is this normal?

What are your double jacks resting on? They need to be firmly resting on a load bearing wall or beam. Once you alter a load bearing wall there is a chnace that the new opening will be fractionally higher.lower than the old wall. The building needs to re settle and there could be some popping for some time, this is normal. Where do you live, climates like mine in Illinois this noise would last a full seaon or more. Kind of like nail pops in a new house, they happen for about 12 months.

Thanks for the help... I live in Richmond Va and the jack studs are sitting directly over the support beam running under my house.

Maybe you need jacks under main beam under house as you added weight at that spot.
