OK so just to let you know I have been to the doctors 3 times


This is what happened. My son ( 9 months) was sick 3 weeks ago so I took him to the hospital when his fever got really bad, they said it was just a cold... the next day he woke up with ear wax pouring out of his ear badly it was white and chunky (sorry for such detail) we went back to the hospital and they gave him ammoxisilin, five days later he was fine, than last night same thing so I went to another doctor and they gave him some diff antibiotics and ear drops...


My question is.. has this happened to anyone else or something similar cause I feel so bad he's in so much pain and every doctor seems to say its something else and they really don't know so if you have been through something similar can you please tell me what happened to fix the problem cause I really would like to know more cause our doctors are not as smart as I hoped

I'm so sorry that you're battling this. I know how desperate and helpless you can feel when your baby is sick.

Has he seen his primary care physician since the hospital visits? Since he knows your son's full health history he might have a little more insight into the situation.

Yes he has seen him and he gave my son some new medication I hope it helps, but he said something completely diff from all the other doctors

Depending on the source of the infection, different antibotics may be necessary. Are you breastfeeding by chance? Many mothers will find several drops of breastmilk can also be beneficial.
If it's particular to your situation, try to avoid lying him down with a bottle and avoid having him around cigarette smoke, both of which can increase the possibility of ear infections. Propping the head of his crib up a bit may help with drainage. Give him something for the pain as well.
Usually the infection will clear up with the antibiotics but sometimes tubes may be used with some children. Pros and cons as to the various treatments that you will have to discuss with your doctor if it doesn't clear up or if he keeps getting them.

Let me also add to what Doula said, you must continue the entire course of antibiotics for them to be effective. If the directions say to give it for 10 days, you cannot stop once the baby starts feeling better, you must give the entire 10 days.

It may be time to visit and ear,nose,throat doctor.

Thank-you all for your help and just to mention no I am not breast feeding unfortunately I had a problem with that when he was born which makes me very upest, and I never let anyone smoke within the same house as him ever I think that's just wrong and sad that people do that, and I never let him sleep withj a bottle that's just not right, the crib proping thing I will try tonight thanks, and the ear nose and throat specicilist is an option but the doctor said only if the infection comes back again

Why wait. My son had issue very early on... had I waited for them to decide about the ent he would be deaf now.

Yo are your child advocate. It is only your reponsibility to do for your son, not the doctors. Follow you instincts and do what you feel is right. Since you are on this sight it shows you have doubts about his treatment.

Yes but I need a doctors approval before I can go and see a specialist, without it they won't let me make an appointment

Simply tell your doctor you don't wish to wait and the you want a referral for the ent. Speak up!

Also, if your doctor is dragging the issue about giving you a referral you can always contact your insurance carrier to make them aware of the problem.

They might be able to help you out. My carrier did when I had a problem getting a refferal and it worked out for me.
