Does anyone know of alternative meds for mitral valve prolaspe. :confused:

What do you mean by alternative meds? I have MVP and take no meds unless I am going to the dentist or having an invasive procedure.

Mitral valve prolapse is a relatively harmless, common disorder. Basically, it means, that the valve between the left atrium (upper chamber) and left ventricle (lower chamber) of the heart isn't closing properly.

When the heart contracts, pushing the blood from the ventricle through the aortic valve into the aorta, the pressure also pushes on the mitral valve (the one between the upper and lower chamber, as described above). As the pressure pushes on the mitral valve, it bulges back into the upper chamber, sometimes up to the point where some blood leaks back into the upper chamber.

The condition for the majority of the affected persons are harmless, symptomless. As you just read the above, very good comment, you have to notify the doctors and dentists if you have any invasive procedure. Why? Because the doctors have to evaluate your need for antibiotics to prevent endocarditis, however, not even everybody needs antibiotics.

You only have to be aware if you have a symptom, otherwise, you can have a happy, problemfree life even with a MVP, as most of the affected persons do!!
