Hi,

I am living in an apartment. I have a double sink that drains into a single pipe fixture. It is cheap PVC piping and my landlord is a deadbeat. Doing dishes is nearly impossible because the drainage is constantly backing up into the sink. Please help me define what I need to alter the flow of drainage. I am not familiar with technologies, so I would need to learn in layman's terms what I can do to fix the problem. We currently have a tube flowing back into the sink to give some type of air pressure to the drain, but it is not helping very much. A diagram would be helpful as to how the plumbing should actually look for this kind of structure. Thank you so very much.

You have clog in your drain line and clog in your vent line, it is your landlord's responsibility to snake it from the roof to clear the vent and the drain line, Thanks.

I agree with John... sounds like the drain is clogged.

You can fill both sinks with 3 inches of water, then have a friend hold a rag tightly over 1 strainer and then you PLUNGE hard on the other sink with a plunger.. see if this loosens stuff up a bit. Be careful not to blow fittings off the pipes if this is a TUBULAR PVC pipe/fittings with lots of nutted fittings.

If that doesn't resolve issue, the landlord needs to start by dropping the ptrap at the sink and seeing if this is clogged there. If not then landlord should snake the drain from under the sink OR from the vent if needed.

I posted a pic. Of a two bay sink hookup, but this pic. Has a disposal. The piping would just have a strainer instead of a disposal... so piping is the same for both.
