    Bank Lien
My mother just recently passed away. A local bank says that she owes them money so the bank put a lien on my brothers home because her mailing address was changed to his house. Is this possible? Please help
    Thank you

It's very possible if your mother owed them money. The only way for them to collect now is to put a lien on her property.

Actually this is not legal. Unless your brother was signed as a co borrower or guarantor he has no responsibility towards any debt owed by your mother.

The only entity that would be responsible for the debt is your mother's estate. Now if you and your brother took your inheritance out of the estate without paying of the debts her creditors could sue. But unless mom was listed as an owner on your brother's home, that lien is invalid.

I correct myself; I read through the OP's message too quickly and thought they had said the bank put a lien on the MOTHER'S house, not the BROTHER'S house.

No, the bank can't go after your brother for your mom's debt.
