Hi I'm 24 years old, and I fear that I can not get pregnant I have been trying but I can never get pregnant. I feel I can not talk to anyone about his problem. I do not now what steps I have to take to see if I am unable to have children ever. Please help as I feel this is not normal.

Have you discussed this with a Doctor and had a complete check up?

No I have not I feel to embarrassed. To go to my gp. I no I should do, but I feel people will judge me as I'm only young.

There is nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed about and your doctor is not there to judge you. This is not an uncommon situation.

How long have you been trying? It can take quite a while for some couples and there are some situations where a little help becomes necessary. Certainly it would be wise to speak to your gp... think of it as a preconception visit. Make a list of questions and go in ready to ask. Being prepared as best as possible before becoming pregnant can help you to insure a healthy pregnancy and baby.

I have been trying for a few months now and I'm getting really concerned.

On my last it took us almost a year and 1/2 and that was following her cycle and having sex only on furtile times. So if you don't get pregnant in about a year, then you have more concern. But you talk to your doctor.

I think I recall reading that if you're under 30 and with no known fertility issues, give yourself a year of regular sexual activity with no contraception. During that time, if you think there is something wrong, or after that time, it is more than reasonable to see your doctor about it. Unless you have a reason to believe that you or your spouse might be infertile, in which case I would make an appointment.

It does not hurt anything to at least discuss the situation with your doctor. My physician actually recommends that women come in before actively trying to conceive so that they can establish the best dietary guidelines and give themselves the best possible conception chance.

I know it is frustrating when it does not happen as quickly as you think it should, even more so if you have any friends and/or family that seem to fall easily.

Speak to your gp, or check out the many sites online, that can help give you ideas for determining when you are most likely ovulating. It can be quite individual as to what methods work best for each person. Some may work quite well, others may be frustrating.

A few months is not long at all (seems like it though, I know!)... most doctors won't even be concerned, or suggest testing, until you have been trying for over a year, which can be perfectly normal.
