The last few weeks I've been experiencing some strange ear pain that comes and goes and goes from ear to the other as well. Hasn't been a pain in both ears simultaneously yet. I went to the doctor a week ago and he said my ears looked great inside and my glands and what not were fine as well. He didn't mention anything about this and I'm pretty convinced I've figured it out. I think I've been grinding my teeth in my sleep and have done some research about this. Apparently it could be TMJ or something to do with it. I would like to know what I can do about this at home. I would like to see if anyone else has any ideas to help this. The ear pain feels like it could be an ear infection but it's not.

These are symptoms of tmj :

Radiating pain in the face, jaw, or neck,
Jaw muscle stiffness,
Limited movement or locking of the jaw,
Painful clicking, popping or grating in the jaw joint when opening or closing the mouth,
A change in the way the upper and lower teeth fit together.

Doesn't sound like you have this.. or do you?

Ear pain is a definite sign of clenching and/or grinding. You should see your dentist and have a night guard made. This will help take the stress of the muscles you are triggering while clenching and your ear pain should clear up.

TMJ is the name of the joint... TMD is tempormandibularjoint Disorder... you need a nightguard

Does it go away? If not, I guess I'll be grinding my Flexible Spending Account next year to get this night guard...

If the ear problem is from the joint, yes it will clear up wearing a night guard. It may take a few nights of wearing before you notice though.
