    Cracking Corian Countertop & Lawsuit
    I have a corian countertop. It's not the solid surface but the 1/4" laminate. We purchased it because it was more affordable than the solid corian.
    We have a 12 inch crack running front to back in the middle of the counter. About a year, after approaching the original installer, I found there was a lawsuit underway against DuPont for this problem. Apparently it's widespread.
    Does any one have any details regarding the lawsuit that they can share? I can't seem to locate information about it on the web, and I believe this is an avenue I need to now consider.

    I'm not aware of any lawsuit which would pretty much have to be a class action lawsuit. There WAS a lawsuit some years ago over the glue - aparently DuPont wouldn't sell the glue over the counter, the countertops didn't hold - and I believe DuPont won.

    When I remodeled this year the designer and I had a lengthy discussion about countertops and he very much advised against the laminates because of the many problems involved with them, basically the thickness of the laminate.

    There was a lawsuit against Avonite and Gibralter for their SSV product which was 1/8" Solid Surface Veneer. These companies were replacing bad countertops as they were called. However someone made it a Class Action and everyone who complains now gets about $500.00. Our legal system in action.

    If this is indeed Corian, it was installed against policy and your only recourse is with the idiot who sold it to you.

    Either way you did not purchase a duPont backed product.
