    Loading Personal Settings
I think I messed up again, and I'm hoping y'all can help me.

I have an HP laptop running Windows XP. I recently added a Linksys to my PC and formatted the laptop to run off if it. However, after I got the Linksys on the laptop, it continues Loading Personal Settings. Never stops. I can't turn the laptop off, but have to let the battery die. It will do this for eons without the settings actually loading.

    How can I fix this?

Do a system restore to BEFORE this started happening.

Boot in to safe mode and go from there.

When booting, just as the screen comes on repeatedly press F8.
If it gets to the XP loading screen you need to start over, otherwise you will be offered a screen covered in writing.
You are looking for Safe Mode.

Once in safe mode you will be given the option to system restore, go back to before this happened.

Thanks Ben, I'll try it once the battery dies again.
