Hi, I need to add a 2-conductor (black/white/copper ground) outlet to a light receptical. The light is part of a circuit that powers my shop. It has two black wires twisted together, two copper ground wires twisted together, two white wires connected to one post of the receptical, and a red wire to the other post.

How do I connect the 2-cond outlet wire so that I get power to the outlet? It's OK if the outet is off when the switch is off.

Sounds like you have receptacles in the ceiling of the shop for the purpose of plugging in light fixtures, and these outlets are controlled by a switch?

If so, you can continue the circuit to another outlet from the red and white at the lighting outlet. If you don't mind the new outlet being controlled, I don't mind.

You mention a black wire spliced through in the lighting outlet. You can test this, to see if this is not controlled by a switch, otherwise is continuous power. If so, the new outlet may be connected to this black, and the new outlet can be on continuously.
