Ask Me Help Desk - D&C and no period in 3 months

:confused:I had a missed miscarriage in Aug 08 and opted to have a d&c straight away. Anyway long story short.. I've not had a period in 3 months. I wasn't given any information of what to expect from the hospital and found on the web that your period should return in 6-8 weeks, to which I then went to see my doctor. I've done several pregnancy tests (all neg) and had bloods done, so definitely not pregnant and all bloods were normal. I have been getting some pain each month around the same time, the first time it happened, I expected my period but it never came!! (I have been on contraceptive for a couple years, but have never suffered with irregular perods). I've had ultrasounds, which have come back inconclusive, so now booked in to see the gynae doc this month. I am extremely worried. I've also had thicker than normal discharge, feels like snot! (sorry). Doctors also done a swab (no std's and no infection). I've had on two occasions discharge tinged with blood, but not enough to say it a period (didn'teven need a sanitary towel). I'm also putting on weight and I don't think I'm eating that much differently. For the moment I've done all I can for now until my appointment, just feel like I'm sitting in limbo!
Has this happened to anyone else? Or is anyone experiencing similar problems?

Wow - sounds very similar to my situation - Peanut (had I seen you on another site?) - I had a d & c August 8th - after missed m/c on Aug 6th... It has been four months and still no period - monthly LIGHT spotting and pain - but no period - Doctor wants to send me for a SHG to see if possible Ashermans - or other stuff - have you been for a sonogram since?

Hi, Sorry it's taken me so long to respond. I had kind of given up as no one was responding! Obviously not that common, but actually it is. Well since my last post, I've seen a gynae consultant and they said they wanted me to go for another u/s at which point I broke down because it's just all getting a little too much, I know it may seem trivial to some, but going thro' a miscarriage having to have a D&C and still to be going thro' this mess is doing my head in, (NO CLOSURE!) to this horrible part of my life. Anyway... enough of me ranting! They decided to book me in urgently for a hysterocopy ' basically a camera goes up to investigate (it's better than a 'normal' D&C as they don't go in blind where as they do in an ultrasound, they are going to put me to sleep and if possible clear the blockage? Fibroid? Retained products? Etc they don't really know at least this way they get a clear image of what is going on and they'll either cut it out/remove it or let me know what it is either way hopefuLLY I'll know what's wrong with me. I've read up on ashermans before and yes the symptoms kind of match, but so do a whole lot of other things, I do hope it's not serious as I want to me healthy!:confused:

Our proceedures look for the same things, the only difference is.. I think?? That if there is something there that they can remove it there and then! Have a look at the website below

Hi you, still no appointment, but they did say 2-3 weeks! (this is urgent!), so still waiting. I'm glad you have a date, let me know how you get on? How are you feeling? I had a huge scream the other day (10th dec to be precise), which made me feel a little better and have been fine since. I've just remebered to check this post and their your post was... Did you want me to email you instead?

Hi, I'm from the UK. Isn't the Internet a great tool! NYC hey. Well, I've been given my appointment 25th Feb!! I know!! Apparently they have up to 13 weeks to see me from the date the consultant referred me. I think I recall you saying you had your apppointment due for 6th Jan. How's it all going? Are you OK? Why so late girl? They can't see you sooner? I can't believe they said an urgent one & they are waiting so long! I feel you! I just want this over already - as if the m/c wasn't enough for us to suffer through... Yeah - the internet has been savior since the m/c for me! I had my appointment on the 6th - they diagnosed me with ashermans syndrome - I just had an appointment with an RE today - he said the scarring (asherman's) was caused by the d & c and I need surgery to fix it - 'good' news is I have a mild to moderate case & dr said he is 90 % sure he can get 100% of the scarring in 1 operation... so I have the appointment on Jan 28th - going to cost me $5g's but I'll deal with the money part after - this specialist is highly recommended & supposedly one of the best in NYC... Wish me luck - I can't take any more bad news...

It's the way things work here, everything takes long, the only relief is it's free (well not exactly free as we pay for these type of services through our taxes), at least we don't have to worry about the lump sum at the end. I'm sorry to hear it's asherman's - one of my worst night mares. At least you have a mld to moderate case, I've heard they cut the scar tissue to stop the blockage and it can be successful, so you hang in there, I'm sure yyou'll be fine. I know what you mean about more bad news, I feel so destructive now and again. I'm piling on the weight at the moment because I eat anything and couldn't give a damn (where as I usually watch what I eat), I feel like my life has been put on hold! I've been thinking about having another child and to be honest it's the last thing on my mind, just want to be healthy. I do have negative thoughts about the outcome of my prognosis, but try to keep them to myself as they only get brushed aside, that's why it's good to talk to someone in a similar situation. I feel your pain... I wish us both luck for 2009:)

I completely understand how things get brushed aside... even my dh - who has been amazing refuses to speak to me about something really being wrong - Pregnancy is my everything now - I am 30 (almost 31) and do not have kids yet - everyone keeps telling me how young I am but with all the drama I am seriously freaking out - (My best friend has a 15-year-old) I feel you with the stress and eating - luckily I don't really gain it because if I did I'd be a house... To be honest - I had started smoking again... it took me about 3 months after the m/c but I couldn't take it anymore.. my husband has ed me out enough that I really am going to stop again TODAY - but its so hard - I feel u - it is nice to talk to someone whose going through something similar... I'm praying for you too! I've been hearing more positive ashermans stories lately so I'm trying to keep a positive outlook - the surgery is in a week... I've got pre-op bloodwork Saturday, and a seaweed thing put in my cervix on Tuesday then Wednesday that's the big day - I'm so nervous, scared, excited, worried and hopeful all at the same time... 2009 had better be our year! 2008 was seriously the worst!

You've probably had you op by now, I hope it went well.. fill me in when you've recovered :) . I've got a month to go now.

Give up that habbit if you can, although I know it's harder said than done!

I don't know but my problem maybe same and different is that I never had a child or miss miscarriage for me is my period. It been 3 months that I don't had period but pregnant test keep on coming out negative but I still don't know the answer

PEANUT - had surgery - dr said it went well but it'll still be another 2 weeks before I know for sure... in the meantime I'm drugged up and hoping all is good - the tube started falling out sat night - and I got a TERRIBLE urinary infection - but that's the worst of the drama - how's it going w-you?.
MELINDA - there are a million reasons for your no period - but what our situation is is very different - you def don't have it... not possible unless you have had d & c's have you ever?

Computers playing up. I'm pleased it went well, sorry about the UTI, although that's nothing compared to what you've been through. Part of me can't wait for the op and part of me is quite apprehensive, trying to stay positive!

Melinda; I would have to agree with Stacyr, it seems you do not have the same problem. When I was younder I missed a couple of periodse.g through stress, body changes, weight loss and weight gain. If you are normally regular, you'll probably be better off seeing your General Practitioner.

Hey girl - I completely understand your feelings! Right now I'm in paranoia mode that I'll need another surgery etc... after all we have been through its so hard to relax and purely think positively - I try - but as a means of protecting myself I feel like I can't get too excited... So here's the whole story - so you get an idea...
6:45am I arrived at the hospital and went through the check-in process... They take blood , have you put on the attractive hospital clothes and booties etc. Then they had me in a room w-husband answering questions/filling out papers, around 8am they came to get me.. thats when hubby wasn't allowed to come. They took me and another woman - walked up the elevator & down several FREEZING long hospital hallways - I felt like I was going to the morgue - the area was so far back and so cold... then they sit us in seats outside 2 "office" rooms. A receptionist called us one at a time and asked us questions - then waiting - me and the woman began to chat - we were both nervous - she was there for a brest operation... we were in about being female :-) anyway then a nurse came & called me in the office; she said she was the nurse blah, blah blah.. then the anestesiologist... etc. Then my doctor came... He told me that he was only going to do laparoscopy if it was completely necessary (i.e. if the scar tissue had hardened and was difficult to remove) anyway - few minuets later they came for me and walked me to surgery room... (doctor gave a warm "welcome" like I was walking in his living room - ) They had me ly on the table - I got a little worried when dr asked nurse if she had ever don't one before because she didn't know how to re-arrange the table for my operation so the doctor did it himself.. I didn't get the feeling she had... ahhhh... but I was also relieved that I had the kids of doctor that didn't need to rely on the nurse and was willing to do things you usually don't see doctors doing himself :-) Anyway - little conversation - needles in the back of my hand and I was OUT! (they didn't even have me count or anything... ) I don't know what time that was but I guess around 8:30ish... I woke up in a bed in the recovery room at 10:15 (I was facing the clock when I woke up so I saw the exact time) The doctor was speaking to me but I was so groggy I didin't really understand anything he said to me... I remember thinking to myself - oh at least I'll get home by noon... Finally when I got up up she asked how I felt - I told her I was a little crampy so she said OK - I heard something about a drug - no Idea what it was but I felt GREAT at that point... She said to go home I had to pee first... I felt like I had to go... but I went, tried & couldn't... The nurse took my temperature which was apparently VERY low - (I was shivering) she bundled me up w- 8 blankets and a heater and got me some hot decaf coffee... After that I sat there for about an hour talking and laughing with the nicest nurse (Denise) I have ever met! As I said - I felt No pain :-) after the hour I tried to pee again... I was just getting restless... I wanted to see my husband... but I still couldn't... this was now 2-decafs later... she told me I could be moved to the recovery downstairs where my husband could meet me... While getting in the wheelchair the doctor came in with another patient he had finished operating on... I had a chance to speak to him awake - he said the surgery went well... that he didn't need the laparoscpy but I really had needed the surgery cause my uterus was completely blocked w-scarring... ok - a bit relieved... I went downstairs they brought my husband to the room and here the peeing became a major issue... 5 coffee cups 3 glasses of water and a cup of apple juice and I still couldn't pee... I got really pissed when I saw the woman who had surgery AFTER me come down get up pee and leave w-her husband... 3 tries later I finally got a few drops out ( remember I was scared & unable to push because of the balloon) they told me I was cleared to go... so in the snowstorm we caught a cab home at two in the afternoon... Hubby went to get me the meds... I was miserable with the pee situation (NOT knowing it was a UTI - I thought it was surgery related) but other that that the drugs were still working so I was a little 'silly' - I watched a few movies w-hubby and went to bed... During the night I woke up several times w-MAJOR urine issues! All day Thursday I stayed on the toilet cause I was dying... finally Friday morning at 7am I called the doctors... I finally figured out I had a UTI and it was not surgery causing this... They called in a perscription after an hour of begging & fighting with the nurse who wanted me to come in to give a sample... and finally yelled at her "lady I am calling you from the toilet! I will not make it on a train down there...and I just had surgery two days ago and I'm supposed to be in bed!!!" she tells me how dr is going to want me to come... I yelled to JUST ASK HIM! And she called me back 5 minuets later like "he said ok - do you have a pharmacy number" anyway - the medicine started to kick in around Saturday... still feels a little off - but in all seriousness I didn't feel anything more then minor cramps from the surgery - maybe it was so overshadowed by the uti that I didn't feel it...
Saturday night - the tube attached to the balloon started falling out a little - I freaked - lisa heads up this apparently happens a lot - dr said to push it back in - I had hubby do it cause I was so freaked... what if I do damage.. etc...
Yesterday - went to have the balloon removed - now this was a surprise! Girl - watch out ma... this kind of hurt... I felt so much going on down there I asked to see it when it was finally out... THIS THING WAS HUGE!! Not the balloon - that was deflated... the tube connected... I swear I can't believe all that was inside me... anyways - last night I had terrible cramps - funny - after the giant thing is out I got cramps... I had slowed down on bleeding (which I've been doing since the operation.. feels like way too much cause its been since may w-no period.. but in reality its just like a normal flow w-extra mucus (sorry to be graphic) anyway I started getting paranoid - like they took the balloon out too soon and its closing up and sealing together again... I didn't relax till I saw some more blood today... I'm so scared... I NEED this to have worked... I can't go through any more... So now I'm crampy and anxious - it'll be two weeks till the follow-up scan and I am so scared... In reality Iit won't be till my march period that this will be really over... if all goes well... so the waiting is still continued... yet more hopeful... In the meantime - TWO girls I know just announced they are pregnant - and even have the same due date etc... I am happy for them - it just hurts so much!

Oh honey well done! And thanks for the update - it's a better account of what happens, rather than reading it from a leaflet or the doctor trying to describe it in a paragraph. I know it must be silly, but you must have been pleased to see some blood! After all this time. It'll all be fine, you'll see. They know what they're doing, they've taken the ballon out at the right time. What you need to do is let your body heal and the only way you can assist that is by relaxing (say's she). Have you thought about going for a massage, spa day to pamper yourself or something like that? My general practitioner has referred me for counselling (shrink as you may call it) and I had an assessment on Monday. The consultant was so understanding and to be totally honest it felt like a mini weight had been lifted after we spoke. He has referred me for a course of one-to-one sessions, so I'll see how it goes. We've had snow over here for two days and th earth stood still... no buses, trains etc so there was no school, hence no work for me! YIPPEE! It was great, we had snow fights in the street I live. We haven't had this much snow since 1994. They say it may snow tomorrow! I'm hoping it is, so I can have a ly in and work from home. Anyway things seem to be getting there slowly but surely for both of us! 20 more days to go for me! Speak soon and take care Xxx;)
