    Fireplace modification
I am retilling my two sided brick fireplace with travertine tiles. We are also changing the gas fireplace from logs to glass crystals. We like the open look, so I removed the glass doors, curtains and log stand. Do I have to remove anything else, such as the metal frame or the any of the inside chamber?

Where do you live? By removing the doors you have opened your firebox to the room and it will draw a tremendous amount of rom air up the chimney. I think you are talking about a two sided, pass through fireplace, right?

I live in Oceanside, California. Yes, it is a two sided fireplace.

Heating isn't such a big topic as it is in Illinois so you should be OK. You should be good to go.

You should leave the damper in the firebox in tact:)
