How can I dislodge a pair of pants wedged under the agitator in our GE 6-cycle washer (top load)?

I can pull the agitator off mine. Look under the cap on top to see if it is a bolt on if not get two strong hands one on each side of agitator and pull up. If bolt on remove the bolt out of the agitator block first.

I removed the bolt and I tried to pull the agitator out but it will not budge, any tricks?

Try rocking it back and forth. The shaft is probably splined and the agitator will really stick to it. Also, be careful when pulling on it that you don't smack yourself in the face if it comes loose all of a sudden!
