    Trane X13 AC need cover?
    Hello:
I have a Trane X13 A/C unit in a new home I have just bought- I am a total novice and have a question. Does the unit need to be covered in Winter?. I live in Fargo, ND . I don't see anyone else in area with covers on their AC unit, but the previous owner left me 2 covers.
    Thanks!

Some folks take better care than others of there equipment. I do not recommend a complete cover since it allow moisture to be traped in the unit and that can cause rust ETC, I use a old plastic garbage can lid on top and hold it there with a brick so the wind does not blow it off. This stops leaves and snow from getting into the unit. If you use a full cover make sure to pull the outside disconnect or turn off the main A/C breaker inside. If you turn on the A/C next season and forget to take off the cover it is not good for the equipment.
