We have a new granite countertop and found out the hard way plumbers putty will not work when installing a sink flange and garbage disposal flange into a granite 80% sink, so I tried latex silicone, twice and it still seems to trickle white silicone around the edges when water is run, what is the proper way to seal the flanges onto the granite sink basin?? Thanks

Silicone sounds fine... but you need to let it dry 24 hours minimum...

Did you let it dry for 24 hours before using sink?

No, used it within a few hours to check for leaks, should I remove and let it reset or let it sit overnight??

Yes...

Remove and clean/dry everything... Use silicone and then re-install all. Let this dry 24 hours before introducing any water for best results! Should not be an issue after that.

I agree with Mark You can use the silicone caulk without fear. If you ever need to remove it, just use a hair dryer to warm it and you can pull it out like a big rubber band, like Mark says apply the silicone calulk and wait at least 24 hours before using the sink, good luck.

Bummer, thanks for the help, will do now and get a 12 hour jump on Saturday night usage, how critical is the paper ring installed next to the rubber ring? I assume the rubber goes between the granite sink, then paper, then large washer flange?
Have you had any experience with the push button garbage disposal? Our is not long enough to fasten under sink since we have both granite countertop and granite sink and maybe one thread to secure botton??

I think Silicone curing time is 72 hours.

Regarding the G/D switch: are you talking about Air Switch? If positive, then just put small bead of silicone around the edge and set it into the hole. Let it dry. No need to screw the nut in...

ALL silicone has different cure times, check the label on the package or look up the datasheet online, the curing time also depends on the type and the room temperature. We do use silicone and RTV in the Airplane system the minimum cure time is 24 hours, the best result will be 72 hours, Thanks.

Hi all...

Yup different silicones cure at different times... but CURING is not necessary here! Just need to let the silicone dry the recommended 24 hours and you will be fine to use the fixtures bkasl. Curing will take place over the next couple days... So I assure everyone... no issues here! Especially as you (bkasl) have stated that you are using a LATEX SILICONE at your first post!

Silicone the air switch... it will hold just fine.

Disposal should have come with instructions.
