My cat has been having diarrhea and vomiting for at least 3 days now. He has mucous in his diarrhea. He is about 9 months old and has had all of his shots. We feed him Kibbles n Bits and have not changed his diet. We do have mushrooms growing in our backyard. Could he be eating those and that is what is making him sick? Can this be curable at home? Any help anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated as I do not have the money to take him to the Vet.

There's definitely something wrong. Call the vet and ask for help. Tell him you don't have the money but love your cat and want to work it out with him somehow. If there's an animal shelter in the area, they often can recommend a vet who will help you at a low cost.

Please keep your cat indoors so he doesn't eat something he shouldn't. Has he been fixed yet? Please do that too, or you will be causing kittens to be produced and more misery will result.

Wondergirl is right across the board. Is he drinking water? Is he able to eat? Vomiting and diarrhea can quickly lead to dehydration, which should not be taken lightly. There are so many varieties of mushrooms, and many of them are deadly. I suggest you research the mushrooms that are growing in your area to identify what you're dealing with. Also, some plants that are edible to humans can be toxic when ingested by cats. It would not be a bad idea to bring those mushrooms to your vet to find out if he or she is familiar with them. Also, I would suggest bringing in a stool sample.

When in doubt, the least you should do is call the vet for guidance. Some vets accept alternative payment methods. If you know you're in a tough financial situation, plan ahead. Find the most affordable care in your area so that you can be prepared for these situations as they arise. Also, whenever possible, try to put together a basic savings plan so that you will always have something on the side for emergencies. Like babies, our pets depend on us completely for their care.

I realize that there are times when money can be tight, but anytime a pet it sick, I believe it should be given the same medical attention that would be given to any child in need of medical care. This is not just a note to you; there are many times when the financial question is posted, and I would like to get this message out there.
