Received Thanksgiving message from ex . Should I respond?
Just a quick issue I hope someone can respond to...

I had a break up recently... trying to do no contact... but tonight my ex sends an email saying Happy Thanksgiving... I didn't open the email yet (he can tell if I opened it) and probably won't open until tomorrow but do you think I should respond? Would I be terrible to not respond to a Thanksgiving wish?

I'm afraid I'll open the email and he'll tell me soemthing about himself I don't want to know... but I feel awful ignoring it...

Any help is much much much appreciated!

No I don't think so its mostly likely a chain letter of those animated things.

Read it if you want at your own risk but I think it's a bad idea. Of course I do not know your break up deal or anything. I'd delete it and move forward and not backwards.

If it was a text or a Facebook message that simply said "Happy Thanksgiving", I think you could respond to it with a simple "thanks" or "you too" and not reply to any subsequent messages. But an email is trickier... it may be wise to ignore, depending on the details of your breakup.

How would he tell if you opened it?

It's through AOL... and you can check the status of emails... that will show when I opened it... it will also show it I deleted it without opening it.

I think I'll just send an email that says Happy Thanksgiving... without opening his email... that's all I'll say and leave it at that.

Hmm Aol certainly knows how to violate people's privacy. I say delete it and move on or open it and move on. No reply is needed.

    Open it, and reply.

Here's what I did... I didn't open the email... the subject from his email said Happy Thanksgiving. I just created a new email... said Happy Thanksgiving in the subject line... inside I just wrote "Don't eat too much" and signed it John. I waited 24 hours from when his was sent before I sent mine and I haven't checked for a response since. I also haven't opened his original email. He returns today from Florida and I know this is the true test of my NC attempt.

I don't feel sending that little email completely set me back... if it were any email besides a holiday wish... I could have resisted responding.. but a holiday wish just cut me to be mean and not respond.

    Was this OK?

Sounds good to me. Your response was not inferring any emotion. Short and to the point. That the way a correspondence with the ex should be.

Thanks... I finally checked my email tonight and wouldn't you know... email from him... didn't open it. I think he sent me a link to a song... not going to open it... not going to reply.

Back to Mork and Mindy Marathon on Sci Fi... funny how those old sitcoms really keep your mind off your troubles.
