The first option is your employer. By law, he must maintain the W-2s on file for at least five years, so pulling a file copy out and making photocopies is a no-brainer (yes, you can file using photocopies of the W-2).

If the employer is not available (employers DO go out of business), the second option is to use the last check stub from 2007. Any competent tax pro can prepare a return using that check stub. In fact, ANY check stub after 1 October 2007 will probably do if you got paid the same amount each pay period and if you were employed the entire year and no year-end bonus was involved.

The third option is either the IRS or the state tax department. Both entities can send you a complete copy of your 2007 tax transcript, which will include the W-2 they received from your employer for 2007. Unfortunately, while the IRS tax transcript does have the W-2 information on it, it normally does NOT have the state tax information on it, which is why the state tax transcript is the better bet! If, for some reason, the state tax department cannot help you, a competent tax pro can make due with the IRS tax transcript.
