HI, I have been very curious about this situation. I am getting married next Aug. and I am wanting my fiancé to be able to adopt my kids. My oldest son is 8 and his biological father has not been in his life at all. HE is not on the birth certificate and hasn't paid any child support. He has always been vvery unfit for my son to have any contact with him. How long do u think it would take to do the adoption with him and what would I have to do? As for my daughter she is 2 and her dad is on the birth certificate and hasn't seen her in a couple of months now and also seems to be unfit also. He has an alcohol problem and I don't care too much for her to stay with him. Please let me know what I should do?

After you have been married for a year, call an adoption lawyer and explain that your husband wants to adopt your children.

To smooth things over down the road, make sure you have child support rulings in place and try to get them enforced. This will make it much easier to convince the bio-dads to sign over rights when it comes time.
