How to deal with the loss of a child.
One of my friends is dating a girl who lost her five year old son in July. I can't begin to fathom what she is going through right now. I am a mother as well and if I lost my child I don't know what I would do. She is going to be coming over to my house this weekend and I don't know how to deal with the situation. I don't want to say something that is going to make her upset. Like talking about my daughter or anything. What should I do? Try to stay away from talking about the situation? How can I help her cope with it all? Does anyone have any suggestions on how I should approach this situation? Thanks for all of your advice in advance.

I think you best approach is to be aware of her feelings. What she is going through has to be very difficult, but I know that if you bring it up then she will be thinking about it and may become upset.

She is probably working very hard right now to take things day by day. If she does become upset for any reason, because anything can trigger an episode than be supportive and offer hugs when needed.
