What is Compila Bacter, and how is it treated?
My 12 week old puppy has Compila Bacter, which I'm told she has developed from eating Bird poo outside. How is this treated? The infection was passed to my son who is 4, who had a nasty tummy bug, but has fought the illness on his own, and doctors say he does not need treatment. Have yet to hear back from my vet as to how to help my pup!:(

Yes, tummy bug all right, symptoms similar to food poisoning. Dogs are usually treated with antibiotics. I am surprised your vet didn't recommend them for your pup. Has a doctor seen your son because it usually can be quite severe for a child.

I would also like to advise that you disinfect the area where your dog does his business, with a mixture of anti-bacterial soap, bleach, or other disinfectant, just to make sure he doesn't get this all over again. He will be more susceptable now. If your son plays in the yard around the area where your dog poops, he could pick it up again too, and make sure you use gloves and get rid of all of the poop.

I hope your son or your dog don't contract this nasty thing again. As Tickle has said, it is similar to food poisoning, and anyone that has had that, knows that it sure isn't fun!
