Hi! I took the test and I'm pregnant and couldn't be (and haven't ever been) happier! I am very serious about quitting smoking, and with the motivation of having a little angel inside, it won't be hard. The thing is, I am also a regular pot smoker. Now most are going to say that I'm irresponsible due to the fact, but I'm what you call a functioning stoner... I only smoke enough to make my ADD brain relaxed, and happy, not "high as a kite". I was wondering about the effects of smoking marijuana (without any added chemicals) while being pregnant. I haven't, so I ask that no one starts freaking out on me (please) lol. Is there any statistics that I should know about?

As for smoking pot, isn't it illegal where you live?

No. Smoking marijuana during pregnancy may affect your baby's growth and the development of his nervous system. Studies have shown that children who were exposed to marijuana during pregnancy sometimes have problems focusing their attention and solving problems.

Children of heavy pot users may also have problems with short-term memory, concentration, and judgment. (There's no evidence so far, however, that marijuana use during pregnancy causes attention deficit hyperactivity disorder).

One study even found that young children whose mothers smoked marijuana during pregnancy had a higher risk of leukemia than those whose mothers did not.

What's more, there's no way to know if the pot you're smoking has been laced with other drugs (such as PCP) or contaminated with pesticides, which would put your baby at even higher risk. And using marijuana increases the chance that your baby will have birth defects if you're also drinking alcohol or smoking tobacco.

If you smoked pot before you realized you were pregnant, don't panic. The chance that your baby has been affected is very small. Still, it's important to be honest with your practitioner about your previous use of pot and other recreational drugs. She may want to run some extra tests to be sure your baby is developing normally.

I haven't quit because I have been deeply addicted for... I think 7 years now. I'm already down to a few a day. Well yes pot is illegal, and that's probably the only "bad" thing that I commit day to day. I know this is immature, but I follow good morals, not rules. If smoking pot was morally bad, I wouldn't do it. I'm all about morals, and I tend to be a rebel and follow my own rules; I can't help it much, it's in the blood :P.

At 15?

How do you know she's 15? If she's addicted for 7 years, then she started smoking at 8... which seems highly improbable... I think that she could be 20 - 24...

And if she's pregnant, she should stop imideatly... but it might be too late already.

Pot isn't psysically addicting that's true... The main thing is S T O P, who cares about the age, you are pregnant. If you just like the taste, try canabish ice tea.

I love the answer Wondergirl gave you. As a nurse in Labor and Delivery as well as the newborn nursery, I can attest to the fact that your baby will suffer withdrawals. It will be restless, cry continuously, have problems with blood pressure, and maintaining it's temperature. This is AFTER birth. During delivery you will have problems with the heart rate. You will have what is called late decelerations in the heart rate, raising your risk for c-section.

At your age, I thought it was 17, you already have enough health risks with pregnancy, why add more by smoking pot? This is at least one risk you can control, the others you cannot control because your body is actually physically too young to be pregnant.

Very true J_9, its not addictive so I can easily just not :P... yes I'm 17 , and that's not to young to be engaged... it's better than not being engaged haha. I just meant that your body is not physically ready to have a baby, then you throw nicotine and pot on top of that and you triple the complications that may occur. Being engaged has nothing to do with it.
