How do I connect my fan light to the switch?
I have just installed a Hunter Fan which is a fan/light combo. The switch has two switches one for the fan and one for the light. I have connected the wires properly from the fan to the romex and am ready to connect the switch to the fan/light combo. How do I connect this? The switch has a black, a blue, and a red wire. The romex red wire is the one the Hunter directions says goes to the switch. Help please. Thank you David Moyer

You need several wires running from the switch box to the fan to use your double switch. White wire is a shared neutral, black wire connected to one switch to bring 120 to the fan, run a blue wire from the other switch to the light. Running into the box you only need a white which does not attach to a switch at all, just passes through the box on the way to the fan. The black coming into the box supplies hot to both switches. A ground is also normally run, do you have enough wires running from the box to the fan?

What sort of Romex do you have running from the fan to the switches, is it 14/3? I'm basically asking the same thing as Ballenger.

And, what type of switch is there currently? How is it wired?

In addition to what others are asking, did you have a fan in that location to begin with?
