    I'm a Florida Plumber with no heating expertise, but we flush our tanks with Chlorine or bleach to kill bacteria. Since this is more a heating question then bva plumbing one I'm going to move this to "Heating" where other experts can answer much better then vI. Good luck, tom

    Black algae is bad news. I suggest you contact a boiler treatment specialist since not only do you want to kill off the offending item but prevent it from happening again. You will need to treat your water.
