    Hormonal Imbalance
I recently spoke to a girl who told me that due to a hormonal imbalance she developed overly large breasts which caused her neck and back pain and at the age of sixteen she was given breast reduction surgery. Also that the hormonal was some how corrected. Has anyone ever heard of such a condition and how would such a hormonal imbalance be corrected?

Hormone replacement therapy would be the reason her hormonal imbalance is corrected. She probably had too much female hormone (high estrogen) that caused her breasts to grow large. Progesterone is the male hormone.

Your question is very hard to answer without knowing or reviewing the child's medical records. I will give a very generic answer though.

She could have had a condition called Precocious Puberty. Did she start her period at a very young age? If so, this may be what she had.

The currently approved hormone treatment is with drugs called LHRH analogs — synthetic hormones that block the body's production of the sex hormones that are causing the early puberty. Dramatic results are usually seen within a year of starting treatment with an LHRH analog, which is generally safe and usually causes no side effects in kids.
