    How to calculate motor power
    Hi,

I need to calculate the power of motor (KW) which require to rotate a drum which is about 7tons.
This drum will be rotate by using 2 motors at both end. The diameter of the drum is 3M and the driven motor utilizing 0.5M tire. The drum should rotate at 5 RPM. This drum will be supported by 4 wheels and only 2 of it will be attached to the motor. Thanks

I think the answer depends on what is going to be inside the drum. Will the drum and its mass distribution be the same all the time or varying, like drums for mixing cement or sorting gravel? Will the motors be applying torque to the outer rim of the drum or to its axis?

Yes, it's like sorting gravel and thus the mass distribution is varying. The motors will apply torque to the outer rim of the drum. Hope the above can assist.
