What type of poem is this?
The poem is called "Marvin Pickett" by Mel Glenn. It's from the book Class Dismissed? Here is the poem:

When I wear my football jersey to class
All the foxes give me the eye.
I am number one, the best there is.
Ain't nobody like me in the history of the school.
I am the greatest pass receiver in the world.
Last Saturday I faked two defenders out of their
    Sneakers.
An caught the touchdown that won the game.
School's for fillin' in the week, man.
On the football field I'm king.
Got it all figured out: two years J.C. ball,
    Then college,
    Then the draft,
    Then the pros.
Hey man, don't you believe me?
    Ain't you listenin'?
    I'm the best there is.

It's an Ode - a poem that praises and glorifies a person or thing. He has written an Ode to himself.

I would say it would be a free verse ode.
