    Tiny fridge, hot in back
I have just purchased a new 1.7 cubic feet Haier refrigerator. About an hour after plugging it in, I noticed that the back coils were quite hot. Is this normal for a fridge? Ive done some googling around, and it seems to be normal, but want to be sure.

Did you push it right against the back wall? Those coils need good ventilation to work properly.

No - I have it about 3-4 inches from the wall. The coils are hot, but not so hot that I can't touch it...

I've got 2 of them; one in a "cubbyhole" in my dining room cabinets - and even walking by it I can feel the warmth coming away from that space. I was worried initially, but it's been there now 3 years or so and it's just fine.

Do be sure, though, that it keeps the distance you've got from the wall.

Be assured cent percent that there is nothing abnormal with your refrigerator if you notice back coils are hot!

The coils (condenser) on the back of the refrigerator let the hot gas dissipate its heat &
Condenser is a collection of heat-exchanging tubes.

Heat moves from warm areas to cool areas. In other words, the heat jumps from the hot tubes at the back of the refrigerator to the warm kitchen air.

In more simple non technical terms remember “Heat Gain = Heat Lost”
Heat is gained from the food stuff stored inside the refrigerator &
Heat is lost from the back coils of refrigerator.
