detached garage panel install, please help
Hi, I am running 8-3 underground in pvc conduit and am wondering:
    1. How high up the garage wall I should come up before entering the garage (I guess this means how high the panel will be on the inside as well)? Any code for this or is whatever height is comfortable good enough?

    2. Also, I am running 40 amps 220 volts out there, but the panel I bought is Cutler Hammer 100amp value pack just because I wanted a circuit breaker out there and 100 was the lowest they had. Is this overkill? Should I go with just a main lug? Please help. THanks in advance!
    Regards,
    Steve

The UF cable can enter anywhere is comfortable, if open to damage, then protect it inside a wall or sleeve with conduit. The top of the panel should be no higher than 6.5 feet.

The 100 amp panel is fine, just cannot use the 100 amp breaker, MLO would be better, and rely on the 40 amp breaker back at you main panel to protect this circuit and panel .

Thanks a lot tkrussel! That's a cheaper solution than the panel I bought!
