As a Christian concervative, I applaud the Obama's decision to send their daughters to the best school possible within their means. Every parent wants to give to their child what they might not have had growing up.


But what do you lefties think?

Why don't the Obama's "spread the wealth" and pay for 2 diadvantaged children to go to the same school their daughters are going to? Or why aren't the Obama's "spreading the wealth" with the $57,844 tuition and sending there children to local DC public school?

The election is over, he is going to be our President. His children just could not go to public school, they would be in too much danager, It had to be either private school or taught in the white house.

Using his kids as a political tool has no place in proper society.

I'm just curious as to what those who believe in gov education and separation of church and state think of this.

If his kids were sent to public school they would be hounded by the press and possibly be in danger since the schools aren't accustomed to the security measures the girls need. I don't think anyone actually expected the girls would go to public school. Not to mention the disruption it would cause in a public school for such figures to attend there. It would compromise the learning environment for the other kids, at least on a temporary basis.

Improvement can still be brought to DC public schools (and other public schools) by Obama - his children going to a private school doesn't preclude that.

What does this have to do with separation of church and state?

The Carters sent their Amy to public school . But I agree that it would be a security challenge .Too bad ;under Michelle Rhee there are some great reforms happening in the Wadhington DC school district. Their attending would've highlighted the efforts of Rhee to a national audience.

It is unfortunate that all parents do not have the choice the Obamas made.It would be nice if Obama uses his influence to give the parents of other DC children more choices in getting their children into better schools.Vouchers would help more parents to have the option.

Don't those on the left, the liberals see the irony in this.

Obama had campaigned on liberal big government solutions, and quite a few here on amhd decry capitalism and the private sector, but for his own children, president - elect Obama chose not the big gov public school that is miserably failing in its goals, but he chose what I, a conservative and capitalist, would chose for my own children, a private sector, faith based education.

I agree that this is a non-issue. More power to anyone that can afford to send their kids to a fine private school.

I'm more interested in where or if the Obamas are going to attend church. I can't imagine them attending the usual "president's church," St. John's Episcopal, but you never know. Being the man of faith he is and knowing the church he came from he seems kind of boxed in. Does he find another Afrocentric church where he feels comfortable? Does he attend St. John's and get bored? Does he find something charismatic? Does he attend at all? Yes I know, it has nothing to do with his ability to lead the country, but I think it will be interesting to see what they do.
