I have one child with my EX husband he was told if I remarrie he no longer has to pay me child support is this true. (We reside in Massachusetts.)

No, this is not true. If he were paying alimony, then yes. Child support is paid until the child is 18 (or out of college in some cases).

In some States it's until 21.

In California child support ends at 18 (if the child has finished high school), or after 18 until high school graduation if the child is a full time (not part time) high school student but in no event longer than 19. We have no college support (this was debated in the legislature for years and consistently rejected - which I think was the right decision).

Lets also not forget the emancipation claus for California. If a child of 16 should have a baby then they are automatically emancipated under California law and child support would end at that point.

The college support is by stipulation only in California so unless both parties agree then it can't be written into support orders.

It does not matter if you remarried or not. He still owes the child support. Don't let him pull the wool over your eyes on that old saw!

He will still have to pay support,

This went off topic very early and many answers, including mine, addressed the off point misinformation and NOT the original question and the thread never went back to the original question.

As Twinkie just addressed - the question was does CHILD SUPPORT end if the custodial parent remarries.

The answer is, "No," not in any State. Anyone have info to the contrary?

I tried looking it up to get the code for it and it looks like a dead link. It seems its been amended to fit new welfare laws in place. Now apparently there is even a clause in parts of it that should a child have a child then they MUST live with their parents in order to retain services.

I stand corrected.

I guess they created another gray area for the legal system to fuss over.
